Celebrating Pride month
This month we join the Pride celebrations as part of our commitment to driving change and being a positive role model in our industry.
We have come a long way since the Stonewall riots of 1969 but there is still so much work to be done, not least in the UK Construction sector. Pride month is great to raise awareness but now it's time to go beyond awareness and foster an authentic culture of inclusion, respect, acceptance and belonging for everyone.
For us it's a constant learning curve but we are learning.
When we recently introduced our new core values we also introduced a key set of behaviours for each value. We knew that this was key to helping build the kind of work culture where we can live our values daily. One of our core values states:
We Are One Team
This captures the inclusive culture we want to have but we also wanted to show that being one team doesn't mean we are all the same. That's why in the set of behaviours that accompanies this core value we included:
- Respecting each others' opinions
- Treating people with respect regardless of their culture, religion, age, race, sexual orientation or disability
- Accepting and respecting people’s individuality
We want to foster a work culture where everyone should be free to be their best and true self at work, without fear of discrimination, so that they can share their stories and be inspired everyday to make a difference.
