University of Bath Graduates

Civil Engineering placements and careers

Providing valuable, hands-on experience

Glanville has established a strong and lasting relationship with the University of Bath, offering high-quality civil engineering placements for students. This collaboration provides students with valuable, hands-on experience through a variety of projects that span multiple disciplines within civil engineering. Students benefit from involvement in projects from inception to completion, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the field.

One of the key aspects of the placement is the one-on-one mentoring provided by senior engineers, ensuring that students receive personalised guidance. In addition, students are given opportunities to visit project sites, further enhancing their practical learning experience. Many students choose to return to Glanville during their summer breaks, not only to expand their skills but also to earn extra income.

Glanville’s support often extends beyond the placement period, with many students pursuing permanent employment.

Graduate Engineers

Graduates are the next generation of civil engineers, structural engineers, transport planners and building surveyors and we are always looking to recruit graduates who are passionate about a career in construction to join Team Glanville.

Glanville is always looking for talented graduate engineers to join the team, offering a supportive environment that promotes professional development and career progression.

As a Glanville graduate, we will support you in your career, helping you to make the right decisions as you map out your career path. A number of our partners joined as graduates, so the opportunity is there for the right people.

Through Glanville’s ICE training scheme and continued mentorship, students and graduate engineers can work towards Chartered Engineer status, leading to long-term careers with the company. Glanville takes great pride in the success and development of these future engineers.

Testimonial from Charlotte Salt, Principal Engineer

Charlotte Salt joined on a year-long work placement from the University of Bath in 2015, rejoining as a graduate engineer in 2017. In 2020 she was promoted to Senior Engineer, and in 2023 to Principal Engineer, and is currently working towards Chartered Engineer status:

“Undertaking a year-long work placement at Glanville gave me great experience working in the industry. The number and variety of projects I worked on throughout the year gave me an insight into a wide-range of engineering tasks, and I was supported by senior engineers in developing my technical knowledge as well as softer skills. Subsequently I was able to study part-time and achieve my Master’s degree in Civil Engineering whilst working as a graduate engineer at Glanville, and have since been supported and encouraged in my continued professional development. My favourite part of my job is the variety of work and engineering problems to solve, including coordinating with and learning about and other parallel disciplines, such as geotechnical, ecology and planning disciplines.”
