Glanville’s Volunteering Initiative for the Oxford Preservation Trust

As part of Glanville’s membership with the Oxford Preservation Trust, we were delighted to be invited to take part in a hedge planting initiative at Harcourt Hill. This was a fantastic opportunity to give something back to the local environment and support a meaningful community project.

Six members of our Didcot and Hemel offices attended the morning session, kindly supported through Glanville’s Charity Leave scheme. It was a great chance not only to contribute to a worthwhile cause, but also to spend time outdoors together, learning more about the site and the important role that hedgerows play in our natural landscape.

The new hedge has been planted along an existing boundary, stretching approximately 160 metres across the site. A carefully selected mix of native species was used, including Hawthorn, Beech, and Hazel. These varieties were chosen for their resilience and the valuable habitat they will provide. As the hedge establishes and matures over the coming years, it will create shelter, nesting opportunities, and food sources for a wide range of wildlife, from birds and insects to small mammals.

It’s incredibly rewarding to know that something we helped plant will continue to grow and thrive long into the future. We hope to remain involved with the project and, where possible, assist with the hedge’s ongoing maintenance as it develops. We’re also looking forward to visiting the site in years to come to see how it has flourished. With a bit of luck, we may even spot some of the wildlife that has made the hedge its home – a lasting reminder of a great team effort and a positive contribution to the local environment.
