In the early part of 2020, as the COVID pandemic tightened its grip and Government guidance was for essential travel only, many households opted for their weekly groceries to be delivered to their home.

Glanville was appointed by a well-known retailer, who was looking to expand its home delivery sector, to see how they could maximise the number of delivery vans within an existing warehouse space as well as provide perimeter parking. The exercise was particularly challenging, as there was a requirement to cater for the movement of delivery vans and articulated lorries.

Working closely with an architect, Glanville carried out a critical appraisal of a series of layouts, undertaking swept path analyses in the process and made recommendations on how the available space could be best utilised and vehicle manoeuvres could be simplified.
