Studies include consideration of the site's previous history, ground conditions, land contamination, environmental issues, flood risk, drainage and utilities, transport accessibility, traffic impact and highway access as well as preliminary advice on structural design and building condition. These studies highlight potential abnormal costs and identify whether more detailed investigations are necessary.
We are also able to carry out topographical and measured building surveys to provide an accurate base for preparing initial design proposals.
We are able to provide technical support for planning applications, including the preparation of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Road Safety Audits, Flood Risk Assessments, Foul Drainage & Utilities Assessments and Phase 1 Geo-Environmental Appraisals. We have recognised the benefit of Building Information Modelling (BIM) both for new-build design and the refurbishment of existing buildings. We have invested in the latest laser scanners to capture 3d data quickly and accurately, as well as Autodesk Revit software for detailed design purposes.

Glanville is able to advise on the most appropriate form of contract for the project and ensure that all of the associated documentation is in place. We have extensive experience in the preparation of specifications, bills of quantities and other tender documentation. Glanville is also able to provide advice on the short-listing of tenderers appropriate for the project. Once we have evaluated returned tenders, we are able to advise on the final selection and appointment of the most suitable contractor.
During the construction phase our engineers and surveyors protect the interests of the client by monitoring progress on site, to see that work is carried out to an acceptable standard and in compliance with the specification. If appropriate, we are able to place staff on site for the duration of the contract.
Our engineers ensure that design changes (that may prove necessary as a result of unforeseen site conditions) are accommodated efficiently with a minimum of delay to the project. Claims by the contractor for additional payments can be reviewed and negotiated by Glanville, on behalf of the client.
The transfer of design data from plan to site is a critical stage of a construction project. Glanville is able to provide teams for the setting out of all aspects of the project or specific staff allocated to work as part of the client's team. The latest equipment enables the automatic upload of design co-ordinates and cost-effective one-man setting out (site permitting) with robotic total stations.
Glanville’s engineers, surveyors and specialists remain available following completion of the project to address any continuing issues, such as the implementation of measures required by planning agreements, including Travel Plans. Further assistance can be provided during the maintenance period, with the completion of snagging items and resolution of the final account.
