As Managing Director, Howard plays an active role in the strategic planning for the future of the business and in managing the day-to-day activities of the Hemel Hempstead office where he is responsible for the Civil Engineering, Transport & Highways departments.

Howard is a highly competent and experienced civil engineer, who uses his wealth of knowledge to provide sound and practical strategic advice to clients. He has established specialised services for pre-planning and pre-purchase inquiries, providing advice on infrastructure, flooding and transportation.

During his career with Glanville he has been responsible for a variety of projects ranging from designing new infrastructure for housing estates and business parks to improving existing infrastructure including highway maintenance, traffic calming, pedestrian safety measures, pedestrian crossings, cycleways and flood alleviation.

Steve Berger, Director

Chartered Building Surveyor, BSc MRICS

Steve has a broad skill set and experience across all areas of building surveying, giving him an ideal perspective when strategically advising on property assets.

Steve has specialised in the design and project management services to the telecoms and utilities sectors. He has a detailed understanding of all elements of the construction industry and a wide breath of practical experience that covers the design, specification and contract administration of projects of all sizes. He has been involved in a number of large-scale Condition Surveys for leading residential, educational, industrial and commercial clients.

Steve has built a reputation for delivering a comprehensive range of building surveying activities focused on new build and refurbishment projects mainly in the commercial and industrial sectors covering building design, CDM advice, condition surveys and defect diagnosis.

John Birch, Director

John is an exceptionally talented Civil Engineer with a client-focused approach. John has been a Director of Glanville since 2005 and holds responsibility for the Civil Engineering and Transport & Highways departments at our Didcot office, leading a team of over 20 technical staff.

John’s experienced hand has seen him take responsibility for the detailed design, procurement and site supervision of many major infrastructure schemes.

Ruth Eve, Acting Director

Chartered Structural Engineer, BEng( Hons) MIStructE

An ambitious structural engineer, Ruth brings a refreshing energy to projects, challenging and adding value across traditional and modern methods of construction. Ruth leads our structures team, managing projects for private and public sector clients, as well as directly for main contractors. An excellent communicator with a flexible hands-on approach, Ruth uses her expertise in pricing, programme and design constraints to provide robust designs and excellent project management.

Ruth has experience across a wide variety of projects and construction types. She has particular expertise in new build and refurbishment projects encompassing the use of timber, steel, concrete and masonry. She has worked across new build projects, including offices, schools, care homes, hotel, defence and laboratory buildings, car dealerships and large residential developments as well as heritage projects that include surveying, refurbishment and conversion of historic buildings and barns for residential and commercial use.

Tim Foxall, Director

Transport Planner, BA (Hons) MIHT

Tim is a widely respected and experienced transport planner, reflected in the range of prestigious projects in which he is regularly involved.

With a solid qualification and a strong background in strategic transport planning, Tim has a mature understanding of the planning process and his experience in detailed highway engineering works makes him a formidable advocate for public and private sector clients alike.

Tim leads a growing team of Transport Planners, Engineers and Technicians working on a variety of different projects for leading builders, developers and professionals that operate on retail, residential, commercial and leisure related development.

Hylton George, Director

Chartered Civil Engineer, BCivil BSc Eng CEng MICE PR Eng

Hylton is a civil engineer with international experience in both the UK and South Africa. He has a strong reputation for detailed design of external works and infrastructure for large schemes. Hylton enjoys finding the best design solution to meet the client’s needs and his experience has been diverse, including investigation, design and contract administration on projects ranging from highway improvements to large business parks and residential developments.

Hylton frequently provides a range of expert services including assessment and reporting on various failed road surfaces for both private clients and Local Authorities, failed drainage systems, and an assessment of pavement installation, reporting in accordance with the Civil Procedure Rules.

John Hallett-Jones, Director

Chartered Land Surveyor, BSc (Hons) MRICS

John is a Chartered Land Surveyor with a diverse range of Geomatics experience developed over many years. John and his team have built an impressive reputation for delivering the full range of surveying, mapping, 3D modelling and imaging services to a broad spectrum of clients. Over the last five years this has expanded further into underground utility mapping.

As well as major retailers and property developers, John works extensively in the environmental sector, providing flood and river channel related surveys to private clients and the Environment Agency.

John has particular expertise in the Heritage sector. Recent clients include Historic Royal Palaces and The National Trust. He is also fully proficient in dealing with boundary surveys and land registration issues.

John Hanlon, Director

John plays a key role in the management of Glanville and its strategic growth. He brings a personable, client focused approach to projects combined with a comprehensive understanding of wider issues beyond the discipline of Civil Engineering.

John has a wealth of experience in pre- and post- planning advice and design services from site purchase to master-planning and concept design through to detailed design, technical approval and contract document preparation. He has a proven track record in providing detailed technical solutions, coupled with sound commercial advice.

John uses his cross-sector experience to provide added value to his clients. His has extensive technical engineering knowledge of highways and drainage infrastructure and maintains an active role in projects, leading a professional team who provide public and private sector clients with a design focused service.

Andy Smith, Director

Andy is a highly skilled structural engineer with over 25 years’ experience in the structural design of residential, commercial and leisure developments.

With extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, Andy has developed a strong reputation for providing design consultancy services on diverse building developments. He has considerable expertise and ability in project management and adds value throughout the design and construction process.

Andy has provided the structural design for numerous low and medium-rise housing developments, closely liaising with architects, developers and contractors at the design and construction stages. He has also been involved in a number of high-profile overseas projects in the residential and leisure sectors, designing luxury resorts.
