Contracts have completed for Bellway and Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, to acquire a parcel of land on which it will build 1,200 homes as part of a joint venture in Cherry Hinton, Cambridgeshire.

Glanville have been working with Bellway and Clarion to provide structural engineering design and consultancy throughout the due diligence period up to the purchase of the site.

The site is situated on the fringes of Cambridge city centre, adjacent to Cambridge airport. It extends to 138 acres and will deliver exceptional designs and a high quality of sustainable living for 1,200 homes of which 40% will be affordable housing. The development also consists of two new schools, retail space, outdoor areas and a community building for the new neighbourhood.

Glanville are now moving forward with Bellway and Clarion, to provide structural engineering support through the preparation of Reserved Matters Applications. The development will not only provide a brand-new community for Cambridgeshire it will showcase the latest innovations in sustainable homes, retail and commercial spaces.

“We are delighted to be playing a key role in this innovative new community development that has sustainability at its heart. Our team are experts in delivering ground-breaking engineering solutions through all stages of a project. This new development represents exciting opportunities to demonstrate this.”

Richard Cook, Group Director of Development for Clarion Housing Group, said: “Cambridge is one of the most vibrant cities in the country and I am pleased that our joint venture has taken the first step towards delivering a project of great ambition and scale. I am particularly proud that this will be a mixed and sustainable community in every sense, with homes of all tenures and a commitment to a sustainable community.”

Endurance Estates acted as promoter for the development and worked alongside Marshall Group Properties to secure planning permission for the site. The land was sold through Bidwells and Cheffins with Gowling WLG and Mills and Reeve as legal advisors.
